Cool Down 66

Hellboy and Hulk! I'm really feeling liberated by sticking to open linework. I think that's been part of my inner conflict, feeling like I HAD to fill in spaces with minutiae, insane amounts of hatching, drybrush, etc. I think we have to look ourselves in the mirror and have that tough "You're not Eric Canete or Sean Murphy" talk. I can do that kind of brushwork...but it doesn't mean that's right for ME. Doesn't mean I won't approach it from time to time, but this definitely feels more native to my strengths.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with this, and I might take a pass at color tomorrow, maybe on this piece or something new. I'm going to avoid going completely psychedelic with the colors. Some artist friends have told me it muddles my linework. So I'll give a shot at some more coherent color applications.

Honestly, I'm in full rebuilding mode. The past 5 months have been rough, and I'm not going to say why or how, but having won out at the end of it has made me feel refreshed, renewed. Finally unburdened by the weight that's been on my shoulders all this time has allowed me to reevaluate my artistic choices. I really want to make a go of things, and feel like I've been given a great chance to do something big.
