Rick Dangerous 8

A couple years back, when I was doing my first year of teaching, I decided I wanted to work on my sequential abilities. The only sequential pages I had done were for the Hunger TPB, Negative Burn, and the two stories for Synesthetic. I had extremely little experience in storytelling for my age compared to most of my friends. So I decided to do a webcomic called Rick Dangerous, which I could put into a sketchbook/activity book I made that summer called Roman Thug Life.

Rick became one of my favorite characters, but it was a place to showcase characters I came up with over the years in comical situations. I love slapstick comedy, puns, and one-liners, so this was probably the most fun I ever had in comics. Even when I was doing talking heads, they were fun...because they had purpose!

I think I should have looked at this as a sign that since I had the most fun writing for myself, that's what I should have done. Instead, many failed projects later, I only now have come to that realization. I think I avoided it because writing and drawing is a lot of work, but now that I have the time, it really feels like a good thing.
